Facebook Ad Spending Limit Reached? Check the Real Cause Before You Fix It

Want to increase your advertising budget, but Meta won't let you spend more?

Many advertisers immediately assume their ad account has been restricted. In reality, there are at least two different mechanisms that look very similar, making them easy to confuse.

Billing Threshold vs Account Spending Limit

Billing Threshold is the accumulated amount you can spend before Meta charges your payment method and resets the balance. Your threshold increases automatically over time as you build a consistent payment history. There is no button or request form to manually increase it.

Account Spending Limit is a spending cap manually set by the account administrator. Unlike the Billing Threshold, it can be changed at any time from the Billing section—no approval is required.

The most common mistake is confusing these two settings. In many cases, what appears to be an account spending restriction is actually an Account Spending Limit that was set when the account was first created and never updated as the business grew. That's why it should be the first thing you check—it only takes a few clicks to verify.

Check in the Right Order

If that's not the issue, check your Payment Activity next. You may have a failed payment or an outstanding balance without realizing it. According to Meta's billing system, your account may be prevented from spending more until the outstanding payment has been successfully processed.

Another possibility is that you're using a new ad account. New accounts typically start with a lower Billing Threshold, which gradually increases as successful payments are made over time. In many cases, this isn't actually a problem—it simply requires time and a consistent payment history.

However, if your account isn't new, has no outstanding payments, and your Account Spending Limit is already set high enough, yet you're still unable to increase your spend, think back to any recent major changes. Did you suddenly increase your budget from 5,000 THB to 100,000 THB overnight? Did you change your payment method while making multiple campaign edits at the same time? Large or simultaneous changes may trigger additional review by Meta's systems. Making changes gradually and allowing time between updates is usually the safer approach.

There Is No Safe Shortcut

One important point is worth emphasizing: don't look for services that claim they can “unlock” or instantly increase your spending limit through unofficial methods. Your Billing Threshold is tied to your account's real payment history. There is no safe shortcut, and using unofficial services may only increase the likelihood of additional account reviews.

If you've checked everything above and still can't identify the cause, the next step is to visit Business Support Home and review your account status in more detail.

Planning for Faster Budget Scaling

For businesses planning to scale their advertising budget quickly from the beginning, there's another option that's often overlooked: running ads through an account under a Business Portfolio with an established payment history. In general, accounts with an established payment history tend to have a higher Billing Threshold than newly created accounts. This is simply how Meta's system works—not a workaround or a way to bypass platform rules.

Casperacc provides Agency Access through our Business Portfolio for businesses that prefer not to spend months building a new account's payment history from scratch. All accounts remain fully subject to Meta's advertising policies, billing requirements, and access permissions.
